An on-shore oil rig worker was injured in an accident that occurred whilst working on the rig. The worker sustained injuries that meant he would not be able to work in a similar role in the future.

The worker had been injured by a section of pipe. Due to inadequate supervision and lack of operational procedures, the work place environment was unsafe.

The matter went before the State Worksafe committee where the original compensation offer was significantly increased.
