By definition, "small project" does not specifically relate to the dollar value of the project. It does relate to the complexity of the project. A million dollar project or investment with some companies represents a significant investment, whilst with a multi national it probably represents a "small project".

For the sake of a few hundred dollars, engage an engineering consultant who can project manage the task for you or at least provide you with advice on the minimum requirements. Let the consultant take the load in writing your equipment specification, carry out or organise inspections and testing, ensure that all the correct documentation is in place for final acceptance etc.
